INGRID VAN AMSTERDAM

Ingrid van Amsterdam

Ingrid was born and raised in the Netherlands and has lived in New Zealand for 38 years. With an interest in culture and humanity and her love of colour and nature, she is most in her element during the organic and creative processes in everything she undertakes.

Ingrid’s artwork evokes movement and energy that includes colourful as well as monochrome creations that often come from visions and thoughtful meanderings, inspired by dreams, the metaphysical, natural elements, and self-reflection. Intuitive and often autobiographical, Ingrid’s works are greatly influenced by universal energy and her work as a healer, a natural gift inherited from her mother’s side. The artistic media she uses ranges anywhere from acrylics and pen to digital and video, sometimes extending to working with textiles in various forms.

From time to time she puts pen to paper (and fingers to keyboard!). Ingrid’s writings include poetry and other musings as well as non-fiction in various genres.

She sees her largest project to date as BiograView, Perspectives from around the globe, a digital and in-print magazine that she directed and published in New Zealand and internationally between 2019 and 2022. Ingrid also wrote BiograView’s kōrero (from the editor), and quiz.

After a range of life experiences in New Zealand, Ingrid became a mature student and graduated in Creative Technologies, and Business Heritage, Culture and Sustainability at the Western Institute of Technology Taranaki.
