No holds barredSo this is the string drawing I completed in April.

The idea was to create an image without first using pencil or pen, and to let the string do the drawing.

It was an experimental and organic process in which it showed my tendency to be precise and controlled ~ everything had to be in the exact right place. I did this process starting with a beige wool recycled from an unravelled jersey, then a burgundy, wool from the same old jersey. I loved working in layers, creating depth, as well as perspective with lines disappearing into a vanishing point. My aim was to create movement, into, and out of, the image.

Once I had finished with the broken fence I was ready to put some slack in the wool and let it hang naturally. (Actually I did this with the little sheep in the background also.)

It was only later that I really felt the need to let the material do its own thing, by almost throwing the light blue cotton on the pins already there, transforming the upper part of the image.
